Murray County Superior Court Overview
Murray County Superior Court is part of the Conasauga Judicial Circuit, which includes Murray County and Whitfield County. The county seat for Murray is Chatsworth, and the administrative offices for the circuit are in Dalton. Four judges preside in the two-county circuit. The historic courthouse and the Clerk of Superior Court are downtown, while Magistrate Court, the Sheriff's Office, and jail are on G.I. Maddox Parkway. A felony case can touch both areas if it begins with arrest or preliminary proceedings and later becomes a Superior Court file.
Superior Court vs Lower Courts

Administrative offices are in Dalton, but Murray County Superior Court proceedings and Clerk of Superior Court record requests are tied to the Chatsworth courthouse address and local clerk office.
The circuit also operates accountability courts. Murray County's Superior Court page identifies Drug Court, Domestic Violence Court, and Mental Health Court. Drug Court began in 2002, Domestic Violence Court began in 2014, and Mental Health Court began in 2018. These programs are treatment and accountability tracks tied to underlying court cases, not separate public record repositories. Murray County Superior Court and the Clerk of Superior Court operate from a courthouse with unusual local records value. The official county facility page describes the Murray County Courthouse as Doric-styled, erected in 1916, and one of only three domed courthouses in Georgia. National Park Service National Register material identifies the courthouse as NRIS 80001123, lists 1916 as a significant year, names Alexander Blair and H. Carr in the architect and builder metadata, and ties the building to law, politics, government, architecture, economics, and communications.
Murray County was created in 1832, and the county seat today is Chatsworth. Historical National Register material for Spring Place says Spring Place was originally the governmental seat and had a courthouse near Elm Street and Ellijay Street. That history matters for older Murray County Superior Court, deed, probate, and county-government research because older references may point to Spring Place while current records offices are in Chatsworth.
The courthouse remains a working court and records building. The Public Defender is nearby on North Third Avenue, Probate Court is nearby on West Fort Street, and the sheriff, jail, and Magistrate Court are on G.I. Maddox Parkway. A person following a Murray County Superior Court record may need to distinguish the downtown courthouse record office from the public-safety and Magistrate Court campus.
Murray County Lower Courts
